A Highball is typically a single shot of whiskey and twice that amount of soda water served in a tall ice-filled glass. Its name derives from an old railroad whistle blast that signaled to the crew that the steam engine's tank had sufficient water to get started. The indicator for the train's engineer was a ball floating in the tank. When it was high enough, he blew the steam whistle which - like the cocktail's formula - was two shorts blasts and a long one. The name stuck and the drink order and the glass it comes in are known all over the world.
I only recently came across a manufacturer who could work with my catalogs as long as it involved a vertical image. This was fortuitous for me in that I have a number of these beautiful images that will not work in the horizontal orientation of my beer mugs, cutting boards, pillows and most recently rocks glasses. Unlike most of my glassware, the application is not via ink sublimation. It's instead done by full color digital printing.
Expect more of these glasses in the weeks ahead. They'll be sold in sets of (2) and (4) in a price range of between $20 - 25 per glass. Listen for two short steam whistles followed by a long one. Highballs are coming through.
